Shania Lee Swart - Head news again.
World ranking: Number 10
Country: South Africa
Role: All rounder
Swart became a social media sensation last December for her starring role in surely the most lopsided scorecard in history. Playing for Mpumalanga in a T20 match against Easterns during Cricket South Africa’s Under 19 Girls’ National Cricket Week, the hard-hitting allrounder made 160 from 86 deliveries in a total score of 169, with the other nine runs coming in extras.
Batting mostly with the tail, she farmed the strike, displaying maturity far beyond her years, and plundered boundaries when she could. In total she scored 144 runs (18 fours and 12 sixes) without needing to run.
A lot of runs for someone so young
Swart’s impressive sporting CV suggests she is no one-hit wonder. She has won school competitions in javelin, discus and shot put and represented South Africa in hockey at age-group levels, but a future in cricket beckons. A week prior to her astonishing lone-hand effort, she smashed a brutal 289 out of a total of 352 in a 50-over match. Hilton Moreeng, South Africa’s head coach, watched that performance and she has since been selected for South Africa under 19s. *Main image credit: Hendri Nagel
